There are no sign-up or registration fees when opening a new A-Trade account.
The following personal information is required when opening an account in your personal capacity:
- Full name and surname.
- ID number.
- Physical address.
- Bank account details.
- SARS Income tax number.
- Contact number.
- Email address.
To register online go to Register trading account.
Step 1: Provide your ID number as a unique identifier for your online profile.
Step 2: If you are a new user, you will need to provide a username and password.
Step 3: Enter your personal details.
Step 4: Enter your banking details.
Step 5: Upload the required FICA documents.
Step 6: Accept our Terms and Conditions.

Step 1: Register online via Online Registration and follow the steps for a new A-Trade account and online profile.
Step 2: Within 48 hours after completing Step 1 (including the submission of your required FICA information) you will receive notification confirming that your account is open.
Step 3: Log into your account using your selected username and password.
Step 4: Select your account and place a new order via the “New Order” tab.
Note depending on your banking provider deposits may take up to 3 business days to reflect in your A-Trade account.
Securities listed on 4AX must be freely transferable unless 4AX and the Registry approve of a restriction on the transferability of an Issuer’s securities for example shares of a BEE scheme can only be traded between black persons or for farmer schemes, shares can only be traded between bona-fide farmers.
For a client to trade restricted securities the client must meet the trade criteria of the restricted shares as determined by the Issuer and approved by 4AX and the Registry.

You can access your tax certificates at the end of the tax financial year via your 4AX Registry account login by clicking here and using your personal username and password to login.
No, your A-Trade account can only be used to trade shares listed on 4AX. Should this change you will be informed.
There are multiple factors that may influence movements in the share price of an issuer. Buyers or sellers will amongst others consider the following when deciding whether or not and when to buy or sell their shares:
- Past performance and earnings of the issuer and its share price;
- The price and value of the share;
- Liquidity and tradability/transferability of the issuer shares; and
- The state of the South African economy.
The system simplifies the trading process by allowing investors to register their selling and buying orders. The trading platform merely facilitates the matching of buyers and sellers to the extent that they exist. There is therefore no guarantee that your buy or sell order will be fulfilled.
Note that A-Trade is not an investment adviser and will not make any recommendations and/or provide any advice as contemplated in the FAIS Act 2002, as amended from time to time, in relation to any purchase or sell orders for securities. Insofar instructions received from account holders (telephonically or via on-line) A-Trade will not be held responsible for any financial gain or loss based on the instructed orders received from clients (telephonically or via on-line).
Share certificates will be held in dematerialised i.e. electronic form. Should you wish to receive your physical share certificate you can contact 4AX Registry on +27 11 100 8352.
You will be required to phone the A-Trade call centre on +27 87 095 3359 to change your physical and postal address. It would greatly speed up the process if you could have your updated proof of address with you at that stage.
You need to advise A-Trade if you have changed your name/surname. We will send through the information to ensure the share registers of the relevant issuers you have invested in are updated.
A-Trade will require you to have your new identity document with you at this point in time as proof of change of name/surname.
In the case of marriage or divorce the original marriage certificate or divorce decree as well your new identity document must be in your possession at the time of the change.

Withdrawal instructions can be loaded via your account login or through telephonic instruction by calling the A-Trade call centre on +27 87 095 3359.
Note depending on your banking provider withdrawals may take up to 3 business days to reflect in your account.
